02.19.2010: Edmodo revisited

Category: Internet/WWW
Posted by: melson
Edmodo is a private microblogging platform that teachers and students can use to send notes, links, files, alerts, assignments, and events to each other.

Teachers sign up for accounts, and then create groups. Each group has a unique code which is distributed by the teacher to the class. Students then sign up (no email address required) and join the group using the code.

Edmodo uses a concept called lockers. All users can add any post or reply to their locker. After posts have been added to a user's locker, they can be organized and filtered using tags. Posts can also be sent directly to a user's own locker.

Edmodo has also added an Assignment Turn-In & Grading System to make this part of the job easier.

12.21.2009: Blackberry Users

Category: District
Posted by: melson
Here are the steps to setup your Blackberry to get your saboe.k12.nj.us email. We use Outlook Web Access (OWA) so the setup is a bit different.

Email account name: Full Email Address (username@saboe.k12.nj.us)

User name: TRADMIN\username

Email Server: https://mail.trschools.com/OWA (make sure the https is there, not http)

Email Account or mailbox: username

This should give you access. Some of these settings might be under an Advanced option, so look around depending on your carrier.

While we don't fully support these devices, you can email Michael with your questions to see if we can work it out.

12.18.2009: New Websense Form

Category: District
Posted by: melson
We have upgraded our submission process for changing a website category in Websense. You can reach the form from the main website (http://saboe.k12.nj.us) or you can go to the form directly via http://shortlinks.sapublicschools.com/websense.

Before you submit a site for re-categorization, please be sure you know what category it is being blocked under first. Websense categorizes all websites and tells you the category in the notification window.

This category is very important so that your site can be found and adjusted accordingly. If you have any questions, please email.

Attention Middle High School Teachers! In an effort to be more green and save some trees, we have moved the Lab Usage Forms to an online form located here: http://shortlinks.sapublicschools.com/labuse.

Please complete a form for each period you use the lab within one day. We have done away with the seating chart, so keep track of who sits where on your own. If you have any questions, please email Michael.
